Got a call from a woman over in Wilson Park, Oxnard. She had a 2001 Lexus RX 300 sitting in her driveway with one key left and a crack running down the plastic shell. The blade still turned, the car still started, but the lock and unlock buttons were dead and she could feel the housing flexing every time she used it. She knew it was about to snap in half.
She had already called the Lexus dealer. They told her to bring the car in, quoted her a number that made her pause, and said they'd need to order the remote head key because they don't stock parts for a 2001 anymore. Earliest appointment was the following week.
I showed up on my lunch run. Pulled out a new 89070-48020 shell, cut the blade on my mobile unit using her original as a reference, and cloned the 4C transponder chip with my VVDI Key Tool. The NI4TMTX-1 remote needed to be paired to the car's receiver module, which on the RX 300 is a door control process you do from the driver's seat with an existing working key.
Tested all three buttons. Lock, unlock, panic. Turned the ignition, watched the SECURITY light go solid and disappear like it should. She held both keys side by side and just nodded.
Whole thing took maybe twenty minutes. Her car never left the driveway.
