2024 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Erbes Road Estates, a woman called me about her 2024 Lexus RX. She had the key, it worked yesterday, and this morning the dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning every time she got in. Push-button start would hesitate, then sometimes catch, then hesitate again. She had already googled it and was halfway convinced she needed a full reprogramming.
I drove out and sat with her in the driveway for a minute before I touched anything. Intermittent faults on these tell a story if you let them. A clean failure is one thing. A works-sometimes failure is usually something smaller.
I opened the fob. The CR2032 was original, which on a 2024 meant it had been through a California summer sitting in a hot interior more days than not. The battery tested low, right on the edge of the voltage threshold where the vehicle security system starts getting uncertain about what it's seeing. Not dead. Just not confident.
Fresh CR2032, contacts wiped, fob snapped back together. Then the part I don't skip: I walked the whole car. Every button. Touch unlock on both front handles. Lock from outside. Start button three consecutive times. Tested range from across the driveway, then from the street, then from the far side of her neighbor's hedge just to be thorough. Everything came back clean.
She watched the whole thing and asked why I was still testing after the first clean start. I told her that one good start is a hope. Three clean starts and a full button check is a result.
No programming needed that day. The dealer's route for an intermittent key issue on a car this new would have started with a tow-in appointment and ended with a parts order. She paid a fraction of that and never left the neighborhood.
