A guy in Oxnard, over near the Nyeland Acres area, called me on a Tuesday afternoon. His 2001 Corvette was sitting in a parking lot outside a pediatrician's office. He had a toddler in a car seat and one dead remote in his hand. Lock button, nothing. Unlock, nothing. I got there that same afternoon. Pulled the old fob apart on his hood. The CR2032 was corroded around one contact, enough to kill the signal but not enough to look obviously dead. I swapped in a fresh CR2032, cleaned the board contacts on the remote's circuit board, and ran the on-board programming sequence to sync the replacement fob to his receiver. Lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. All four buttons confirmed from 30 feet.
He stood there bouncing his kid on one hip, clicking the lock button three times like he was making sure it wasn't going to quit again.
