2022 Chevrolet Corvette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I spot a scam locksmith before one shows up at my Corvette?

Three things to ask before anyone arrives: a California BSIS license number, the full company name, and a firm written price for your specific year and model. Scam operations quote low to get on site, then add a surprise "programming fee" or "security access fee" once they're parked next to your car. One owner reported being quoted one price for a key, then hit with add-on charges that multiplied the final bill several times over.

Q: Will the replacement fob work exactly like the factory original on my 2022 Corvette?

Yes. We program the fob to the vehicle and test every button on both the replacement and any existing fobs before we leave. The 2022 Corvette has a 7-button fob, and all seven functions get verified on site. I've heard from owners who paid serious money to a locksmith and got a fob that only responded intermittently. That doesn't happen here because we don't pack up until everything passes a full button-by-button check.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2022 Corvette. Can you just program it, or do I need a whole new one?

Depends on what you bought. The fob needs to match the factory FCC ID on your original, and it has to be an unprogrammed blank, not one already paired to another vehicle. If you've got the right part and it's virgin, I can program it. If it's been previously registered to a different car, it usually can't be relearned to yours. Check the FCC ID on the back of your original fob and confirm the replacement matches before you call.

Q: One button on my Corvette fob stopped working but the rest are fine. Is the fob worn out?

Usually it's the contact pad under that button, not the whole fob. On a heavily used key, individual rubber contact pads wear down or get contaminated before the electronics fail. If the fob is still communicating with the car for the other functions, the electronics are alive. A fob housing swap and contact cleaning often brings a single dead button back. Worth checking before you pay for a full replacement and reprogramming.

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already working the Ventura area on a Saturday night when I got the call. A couple had come out of the lot near Serra Cross/Grant Park and their 2022 Corvette wasn't responding to either fob. Both batteries were gone at the same time, which sounds unlikely until you realize they'd both been in service the same amount of time since the car was new.

They'd already decided to leave the car overnight and deal with the dealer Monday morning. Then one of them searched on their phone and found me 15 minutes away.

I carry CR2450 cells specifically because this platform uses them, and I had the right fob housing stock in a labeled drawer behind the seat. Popped both fobs, seated fresh batteries correctly, resynced at the vehicle.

The Corvette fired on the first press. Then I walked every button on both fobs, both fobs against the car, before I said anything was done. When you've got a 7-button setup and two fobs, that's a lot of functions to confirm. I don't leave until the whole thing checks out.

They drove home that night. The dealer would have been a wait until Monday and a bill they weren't going to enjoy. I was gone before 10pm.

Chevrolet Corvette Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, the state agency that regulates locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. The 2022 Corvette uses a vehicle security system that requires professional tools to service properly, and you want someone with real credentials handling that, not someone running a generic programming device and hoping it connects. License number available on request before we roll.
