2023 Chevrolet Corvette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will the replacement fob last?

A properly programmed fob on this car should last years under normal use. The CR2450 battery is the part most likely to need attention first - plan on swapping it every one to two years depending on how often you use the remote functions. The most common physical failure on these fobs is the shell, which can crack or wear at the key ring point if it takes regular drops.

Q: What if the new fob stops working a few weeks after you program it?

Call us. We come back and we make it right. Every fob we program is covered. If it loses remote function, stops communicating with the car, or develops any issue under normal use, we fix or replace it. We test every button and every function before we leave the job, so problems after the fact are rare - but if something comes up, you're not on your own with it.

Q: My 2023 Corvette key-not-detected warning keeps coming back even with a fresh battery. What's going on?

This is a known frustration owners run into with this fob. A fresh CR2450 fixes the obvious cause, but if the warning keeps returning, there are a few other things at play. First, check that the battery is seated properly and the contacts are making clean contact - the CR2450 is a larger cell and a slightly off-center seat can cause intermittent connection.

Q: Can I program a second fob myself so I have a spare?

No. The 2023 Corvette does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for adding fobs. Registration requires professional diagnostic equipment connected to the OBD port. That applies whether you're adding a spare with one working key already in hand or doing an all-keys-lost situation. Getting a spare made now, while you have a working fob, is faster and less involved than waiting until you're stranded. All-keys-lost on a vehicle this new adds steps and time to the job.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She had just left urgent care with her kid and a bag of prescriptions to fill. Her 2023 Corvette was sitting in the parking lot not going anywhere. She pressed the start button, nothing happened, and the dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning. She tried the fob again. Same result.

She called the dealer first. Closed. Then she called me. I was about 20 minutes out from Surfers Point.

When I got there she had already found the backup start procedure in the owner's manual and tried it. It worked once, briefly, then stopped. The fob's CR2450 had given out, and on top of that the fob had taken a drop at some point and had a loose internal connection. The battery swap alone was not going to fix it.

I replaced the fob with a professional-grade unit matching the factory spec, programmed it to the car using my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, and went through every button function before I called it done. Then I walked her through the backup start procedure properly so she actually understood it - not just that it exists, but the specific placement and timing.

From her call to the engine running was under an hour. The dealer would have been tomorrow morning at the earliest. She made it to the pharmacy with time to spare.

The dealer comparison is almost beside the point on a night like that. The difference was just getting the car running before it turned into a much bigger problem.

Chevrolet Corvette Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket fobs on the 2023 Corvette?▼

We use professional-grade fobs that match the factory FCC ID and the dealer part number for this vehicle. The reason that matters on the 2023 Corvette specifically is that the fob registration process is handled through diagnostic equipment, and a low-quality aftermarket unit can pair but then drop the connection intermittently, especially with remote functions. That's a harder problem to diagnose than a fob that simply won't program at all.
