Out near Channel Islands Beach in Oxnard, a guy with a 2010 Corvette had his key blade snap clean inside the ignition. Half stuck in the cylinder, half in his hand. He had already called another locksmith who told him the ignition needed to be drilled out and replaced. New cylinder, new keys, big quote.
He called me for a second opinion.
I drove out and got under the column with my Lishi HU100 pick and decoder. Slid the broken fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces inside. No drill, no damage, nothing cracked. Once the piece came out clean, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position for the exact cut depths on all ten positions.
Cut a new HU100 blade right there from the decode, then programmed the PK3+ transponder through OBD. The 2010 Corvette uses an encrypted transponder handshake with the body control module, so the BCM has to learn the new key ID and run its security relearn timer. About ten minutes of waiting while the system cycles through.
He sat on the hood watching the whole time. When the new key turned and the LS3 fired up, he just nodded. Didn't say anything for a second. Then: "So my lock is fine?"
His lock is fine. Same cylinder, same wafers, works like it always did. Just a fraction of what the other guy quoted.
