2015 Chevrolet Corvette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to adding a spare?

More. Sometimes a lot more. When you have one working fob, adding a spare is a shorter procedure. The system already has a registered key and we're just enrolling an additional one. When all keys are lost, the security system has to be fully reset through the diagnostic port before anything new can be written in. That reset sequence has a timed component built into the procedure that can't be skipped.

Q: Are aftermarket Corvette fobs cheaper and do they actually work?

Aftermarket fobs for this system exist, but compatibility isn't guaranteed the way it is with OEM-spec parts. The smart key system on the 2015 Corvette is specific about what it will accept during the enrollment process. A fob that looks right and has the correct button layout can still fail to register if the internal electronics aren't up to spec. I've seen customers show up with a fob they bought online and the programming simply won't take.

Q: My Corvette shows a key-not-detected warning but the fob battery isn't something I can just swap. What's going on?

This is a common point of confusion with this system. Unlike a standard keyless-entry remote where you pop the back and drop in a fresh coin cell, the smart key on the 2015 Corvette is not a user-serviceable fob battery situation in the traditional sense.

Q: Can I buy a fob online and just have you program it, or does it have to be your part?

You can bring your own fob, but there's a real risk. If it doesn't take during programming, you've spent money on a part that's now useless and you still need a replacement. I don't charge for a failed attempt with a customer-supplied part, but I also can't guarantee the outcome when I don't control the part quality. Fobs from professional supply channels have a much better track record than retail or auction-site purchases for this specific system.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Silver Strand called me on a Saturday morning. She had bought her 2015 Corvette used about a year earlier, got one fob with the car, and never got around to getting a spare. The way she put it: she kept meaning to.

The fob had been acting up for a few weeks. Short range, intermittent detection, the car not always waking up when she approached. Then one morning it stopped working entirely. She was standing in the parking area behind her building with nowhere to be and a car she couldn't use.

I got there and went through the basics first. Checked the fob physically, confirmed what she was seeing. The vehicle security system wasn't detecting the key at all. This wasn't a fob battery situation since this key system doesn't run on a user-replaceable coin cell the way a standard remote does. The fob itself had failed, and she had no backup.

All-keys-lost on this system takes longer than a simple spare add. The security system has to be accessed through the diagnostic port, old key data cleared, and the new fob registered properly. I had the right equipment in the van and a compatible replacement fob from my supplier. Worked through the full procedure in her parking area, confirmed detection at the door, confirmed the car recognized the key through the full startup sequence, and handed her two working fobs instead of one.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a significant wait for a VIN-verified replacement part plus a service appointment that was booked out days. She was back in the car the same morning she called. The dealer option was an afterthought by that point.

Chevrolet Corvette Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2015 Corvette smart key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. Dealer pricing on a replacement smart key for this car typically runs well into the hundreds when you add up the part, programming labor, and any diagnostic fees they tack on separately. With EZ Car Keyz, you get the fob, the programming, and on-site service rolled into one call. No tow, no appointment booked out days, no separate line items.
