2009 Chevrolet Corvette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Chevrolet Corvette Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was at a taco shop in Oxnard when someone grabbed his backpack from the booth while he had his back turned at the counter. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. He borrowed the cashier's phone, called the police, then his girlfriend, then me.

His 2009 Chevrolet Corvette was sitting in the lot with zero working keys. His girlfriend called the dealer while he waited. They said they could order the key but it would take three to five business days, the car would need to be towed in, and they strongly recommended wiping the key memory since the stolen fob could still unlock the doors. The combined estimate was not a small number.

I got there that evening. All-keys-lost on this car is a different job from adding a spare. When you still have a working key, the car already trusts it and you are just enrolling a second. When every key is gone, I have to clear the entire key memory first, which means the stolen fob gets erased in the process and can no longer communicate with the vehicle security system. Then I program two fresh fobs from scratch, cut the emergency blades to the car, and verify every function.

I used my scan tool to access the body control module, wiped the stored key data, and enrolled both new fobs. Cut both blades. Had everything working before the police even called him back.

He drove home that night. The dealer route would have meant a tow, nearly a week without the car, and a bill that was well past what he paid me for two complete keys. The stolen fob can still physically reach the door handle, but the vehicle security system will not let the engine run with it.
