A guy in Oxnard, over on Oxnard Boulevard, had just picked up a 2017 Corvette Stingray from a small independent lot. One key. The lot told him to handle the spare on his own.
He called a Chevy dealer and got quoted way more than he expected, plus a wait of over a week for the fob to come in and another appointment after that for programming. Two trips, two waits, and a number that made the car payment look friendly.
He found me online and called. I told him what the job actually involved: the 2017 Corvette uses GM's fifth-gen immobilizer with a Hitag Pro transponder inside the HYQ1EA smart key. Adding a spare when you already have a working fob is an add-a-key procedure through the OBD-II port. No security relearn countdown, no BCM reflash.
I met him at the lot with the correct 20765513 fob, already cut to his key code pulled from VIN. Paired the new fob to the Body Control Module, programmed all five buttons including remote start, and tested passive entry on both doors plus the trunk proximity sensor. Then I walked the original fob to make sure it still registered clean. Both keys, full function.
He sat in the driver's seat and hit remote start from the second fob just to watch it work. Didn't say anything. Just nodded.
He left with two working smart keys for a fraction of what the dealer quoted for one.
