Over near Rose Shopping Center in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down in the parking lot. Not my scheduled job. He saw the van lettering while I was finishing up another call and walked over holding a 2005 Corvette flip key with the blade snapped clean off inside the ignition.
He had tried to wiggle it out with needle-nose pliers. That made it worse. The broken blade tip was jammed past the first wafer set in the ignition cylinder.
I pulled my scope and a broken key extractor, worked the fragment out in about four minutes. He just stood there watching, arms crossed, not saying a word. When the piece came out he exhaled like he had been holding his breath the whole time.
Then the real job. His remaining key blade was cracked at the pivot too, ready to snap next. I decoded the ignition wafers while I had good access, cut a fresh blade on the HU100 cutter, and transferred it into his M3N-65981403 shell. The PK3+ transponder pellet moved over to the new blade housing. Connected my IM608 to the OBD port, read the security access code from the BCM, and confirmed the transponder registered clean.
Tested remote lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and hatch. Three cold starts. Walked the lot checking range out past 30 feet. Everything solid.
He said he had already called the dealer in Thousand Oaks and they quoted a two-day wait just to get the broken piece extracted before they would even talk about a new key. He drove home that afternoon.
