Over in Silverstrand Beach in Oxnard, a woman flagged me down from her carport. She had one key to her 2011 Chevrolet Corvette since the day she bought it used. Always meant to get a spare. Never did.
The flip key shell cracked at the hinge and the blade snapped clean off inside the door lock. Half stuck in the cylinder, half dangling from the broken housing in her hand. Zero working keys and a locked Corvette.
Here's what saved her a lot of time. The ID 48 transponder chip inside that cracked M3N5WY7777A housing was still intact. I pulled it, read the transponder data through my VVDI2, and didn't need to run a full all-keys-lost relearn against the BCM. That 30-minute timed lockout cycle never had to happen.
I extracted the broken blade fragment from the door lock, decoded the cylinder, and cut two fresh blades. Rebuilt her fob into a new shell with the original chip transplanted in. Then a second key from scratch, programmed to the car and tested on all four buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, panic.
She stood there watching the trunk pop on command like she didn't trust it yet.
Whole job, about 35 minutes. The dealer quoted her something that made her wince on the phone. She paid a fraction of what they wanted, got two keys instead of one, and never left her carport.
