Got a call around 9pm from a guy standing in one of the parking structures near Seabridge Marketplace in Oxnard. His only key to his 2008 Corvette was gone. Checked his pockets, the car floor, walked the whole level twice. Nothing.
He was already looking up tow trucks when he called me. Didn't have his registration handy, didn't know what a VIN was. I talked him through it on the phone. With that VIN I already knew his setup: Passkey 3+, the M3N5WY7777A fob, B111-PT keyway for the emergency blade. I prepped everything before I left. Under the parking structure lights I cut the blade, generated the transponder with my VVDI Key Tool, programmed the fob to his RCDLR, and ran the 10-minute theft deterrent relearn so the immobilizer would accept the new chip.
He just stood there watching, arms crossed, not saying much. When the engine turned over on the first try he uncrossed his arms and let out this long breath like he'd been holding it since 9pm.
He drove home that night. No tow, no waiting until Monday for a dealer that would have charged way more and taken longer.
