2001 Chevrolet Suburban
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in Mira Monte or Ojai?

Most calls in and around Ojai, I'm there within 30 minutes. I run a mobile setup, so the cutting equipment and key blanks for vehicles like the 2001 Suburban come with me. No service bay, no appointment queue.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

Yes. Same-day is the standard, not the exception. The 2001 Suburban uses a mechanical key, which means I stock the right blanks on the truck and can cut on site. No ordering, no waiting for parts to come in. You call, I come to you in Ojai, and you leave with a working key. The dealer route on something like this can still turn into a multi-day affair once you factor in towing and scheduling.

Q: My ignition is getting hard to turn and my key feels loose in the cylinder. Is the lock worn out?

Very common on 2001 Suburbans with high mileage. These trucks saw heavy use and the ignition cylinders wear over time, especially if the key ring is loaded down with extra weight. A worn cylinder can start to feel stiff, sticky, or develop a little slop where the key wiggles more than it should.

Q: I lost all my keys. Can you still make one without a key to copy?

Yes. Lost all your keys is a routine call on a vehicle like this. I decode the cut directly from the door lock or ignition cylinder, then cut a new key to that code. No original needed. The 2001 Suburban's mechanical key system means there's no module to reset and no all-keys-lost programming sequence to run. Decoding the lock and cutting the blade is the whole job.

2001 Chevrolet Suburban Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Mira Monte, a guy called me on a Tuesday morning because he'd snapped his only key off in the door lock. The bow was in his hand, the blade was stuck in the cylinder, and his 2001 Suburban wasn't going anywhere.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, said it might be a day or two before they could look at it, and gave him a vague answer about what it would cost. He said it didn't sound cheap.

I drove out to him, extracted the broken blade from the door lock without damaging the cylinder, then decoded the cut from the lock itself. Had a new key cut and fitted on site. He could open every door and turn the ignition before I packed my tools back up. The whole thing ran under an hour from the time he called.

He ended up getting a second copy made while I was there. Smart move on a vehicle this age.

Chevrolet Suburban Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban key replacement take?▼

Usually 20 to 40 minutes once I'm at your vehicle. The 2001 Suburban uses a mechanical key, so there's no programming timer, no security relearn cycle, and no waiting for a module to cycle through a sequence. I decode the cut from your lock or use the key code, cut the blade, and test it in the ignition and all the doors.
