Last week in the San Ysidro Trail area, I programmed a spare for a 2022 Suburban that wouldn't remote start anymore. The owner kept hitting the button, watching the lights flash, but no engine.
She thought the whole fob was dying. I checked the basics first: CR2450 battery tested at 3.1V, all six buttons clicked properly, and the car started fine with the fob inside. Remote start just wouldn't fire.
These NGK systems have a quirk. If the hood gets popped while remote start is active, the BCM locks out that function for safety. You have to clear it through the diagnostic port. I plugged in my Autel IM608, went into Body Control Module, and found the remote start inhibit flag still set from when she had an oil change three days ago.
Cleared the flag, tested remote start from 50 feet away. The Suburban fired right up and settled into idle. She mentioned the dealer wanted her to leave it overnight for "diagnostic time" when she called about the issue.
The actual fix took twelve minutes. Programming her spare YG0G21TB2 took another twenty. Both keys tested perfect on all functions including the two-press remote start sequence. Way less hassle than coordinating a dealer dropoff.
