Saturday night out near Hot Springs Trail in Montecito, I got a call from a couple leaving a bowling alley. Their 2020 Chevrolet Suburban was throwing "No Remote Detected" on the dash. Both fobs dead. They had already resigned themselves to leaving the truck overnight and calling the dealer Monday morning.
One of them searched around and found me. I was about 15 minutes out.
When I pulled up, both HYQ1AA fobs were completely unresponsive. No door unlock from the handles, no button response, nothing. I cracked open the first fob on my tailgate and the CR2032 looked original, which tracks. Three-year-old battery in a six-button fob that talks to the truck constantly just sitting in a pocket. The second fob was the same story.
Fresh CR2032s in both, then I connected to the OBD port and ran a resync through the BCM to re-register both remotes. Tested passive entry on all four doors and the liftgate, tested remote start, checked that the DIC cleared the warning. Both fobs worked clean.
The wife kept looking at the truck like she didn't trust it yet. I get that.
They drove home that night instead of leaving a Suburban in a parking lot. The dealer would have meant Monday at the earliest, probably longer, and a much bigger bill. I had the batteries and the tools in the van already. A Saturday night call and a Tuesday morning call look the same from my end.
