Got a call from a guy stuck out near Rose Valley Campground in Ojai. He had been camping for the weekend, came back to his 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, and the LHJ011 remote did absolutely nothing. Lock button, dead. Unlock, dead. He was standing there pressing it over and over like the battery might suddenly come back to life.
He had already called a dealer down the hill. Earliest opening was two days out and they wanted the truck towed in. He was not thrilled about leaving his Suburban parked at a campground for two days.
I drove out to him. Popped the fob open on the tailgate and the CR2032 was completely flat. Probably drained sitting in a pocket near his phone all weekend. Swapped in a fresh cell, but the remote still was not talking to the truck. That happens when the battery dies fully on these. The receiver loses sync.
I connected my programmer to the OBD-II port under the dash and ran a relearn on the remote. Lock, unlock, panic, all three buttons came back clean. Tested range from about 30 feet out. Solid. Then I checked the second fob he had on his other keyring and resynced that one too, since once you enter program mode on these GMs, all remotes need to be re-registered or they get wiped.
He drove down the mountain that afternoon. The whole job took less time than it would have taken to get a tow truck up there.
