2003 Chevrolet Suburban Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman out near Matilija Canyon in Ojai called me about her 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. She had one remote left, the buttons were mushy, and the lock command only worked if she pressed hard and aimed it at the driver mirror. She figured the whole system needed a dealer visit.
It didn't.
The LHJ011 is a standalone RF remote. No transponder, no immobilizer role. The 2003 Suburban runs GM's Passlock II, where the security piece is the ignition cylinder sensor, completely separate from the remote. Her remote was just worn out. Membrane pads going soft, battery contacts showing some green corrosion, CR2032 probably original or close to it.
I met her at the house. Pulled a new LHJ011 remote from my stock, the three-button version with lock, unlock, and hatch release. Programmed it using the GM on-board door lock/unlock learn procedure through the BCM. Held the lock and unlock buttons, waited for the chime, pressed the new remote. Done. Then I did the same for her old one after cleaning the contacts and swapping in a fresh CR2032, just to give her a backup.
She stood on the porch watching me test both remotes from the driveway. Lock, unlock, hatch. Both working, full range.
The whole thing took about twenty minutes. She thought she'd need a trip to the dealer and half a day off work. She didn't even need to leave the porch.
