Got a call from a woman near the Ojai Certified Farmers' Market on a Saturday morning. Her 2005 Suburban's remote had quit. All three buttons dead. Lock, unlock, panic, nothing. She had been unlocking with the key blade for a week and finally got tired of the horn chirp from the factory alarm every time she opened the driver door manually.
She handed me the fob and I popped the case. The CR2032 was corroded and the battery contact on the board had a green film on it. Classic washer damage. Water gets past the seam, sits on the board, and eats the contacts over time. I cleaned the terminals, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and reassembled. Still nothing.
So I grabbed a replacement LHJ011 from my stock, part number 21997127, and programmed it to her truck through the OBD-II port. On these 2005 GMs, the add-a-key procedure for remotes is quick. Smart Pro talks to the body control module, reads the existing remote IDs, and writes the new one in. Took about ten minutes from connection to a working lock-unlock-panic test at the truck.
I told her to keep the old shell in case she ever cracks the new one. Good donor housing.
She walked back to the farmers' market with a working remote and the alarm issue gone. Whole thing was done before her friend finished buying avocados.
